Recap of Parent Meeting

Here is the recap from yesterday's meeting:

Parking - When parking on the street please remember:

    • Everyone needs to park on the same side of the street.
    • Don't park on anyone's yard. Please make sure no part of your tire is on any part of someone's grass.
    • Make sure your car is not sticking out into someone's driveway.
    • Make sure there is at least 1 car length between any stops signs. This is to meet with Cobb County code/law. I don't want anyone getting towed.
    • Don't park in front of the fire hydrant.

Practices - Here is a link to practice policies - Practice Policies and here are the cliff notes:

    • Practice Attendance - it is very important for your child to attend as many practices as possible. Your child has to attend at least 1 practice during a week to be eligible for that week's swim meet. Coaches are assessing the kids during practice and that's how they make the decision on who swims and how often.
    • Parents can stay at practice. If you have a child who is a very capable swimmer they can be dropped off, but just make sure someone is there to pick them up once their practice scheduled time is done.
    • If your child isn't a strong swimmer please make sure you are keeping an eye on them during practice. While the coaches watch the kids, there are more kids than coaches. They are coaches and not lifeguards. It is the parent's responsibility to watch their child even during practice.
    • Swimmers need to stay in their designated swim practice group. Please don't have your child swimming with older or younger swimmers unless the coaches have decided that.
    • Please refrain from talking with coaches during or directly before practice. We really want their focus to be on coaching the group. If there is something you need from the coaches you can email or text them and schedule a phone call or a meeting after practice.

    Swim Meet

    • Volunteering ("manda-teering") - We need 100% participation for volunteers. I'm going to have a separate email for the volunteer positions and descriptions. It takes a lot to have a smooth swim meet. You all can help make it happen! :)
    • Sign up early - Saturday at midnight prior to the meet is the deadline. If you have not signed up your child, they will not be able to swim in that week's meet. There are no exceptions to this. You can sign up for all of the meets right now. I would recommend doing that. It is much easier to be removed from a meet than it is to be added. If you will not be at a meet, mark your child as "not attending."
    • PLEASE, please, please do not cancel last minute on relays. Relays are where 4 children swim a race against the other team's relay team. If one child cancels with not enough notice to get a replacement (after Saturday night) it means the other 3 no longer get to swim the relay
    • Try to refrain from talking with the coaches during or immediately prior to the meet. There is a lot of planning prior to the meet and an immense amount of organizing during the meet. They can be chaotic. Let our coaches focus on having a great swim meet.
    • Swim tattoos/meet markings - You will write their Event, Heat, Lane and Stroke on their arm prior to arriving at the meet. Here is a link explaining how to do this. Swim tattoos - in this example the stroke wasn't included. Definitely make sure that you at a column with a "S" for what stroke they are swimming.
    • Swimmers should be at the blocks 3 events prior to their event
    • You can bring food to the meets. There will also be concessions. View the concessions as another fundraising opportunity. :)

Thanks for being a part of this wonderful team.
